THE RETREAT: Townhouse
This project was a part of our first residential design class; however, it was currently redone in Revit. The floor plan shell was given. I had a lot of fun molding and shaping the space into something I feel was unique to the project.
Concept Statement:
The Retreat, a model townhouse located in Dunwoody, Georgia, caters to young business executives through its luxuriously open, playful and modern space. Nature is the focal point of the space, and it is implemented through the use of natural materials, curved walls, and organic shapes and forms. Neutral colors will be used to compliment the concept, along with pops of color to suit the youth of the targeted buyers.
The openness of the space further allows the users to take in the view of the lake through the large windows; it also provides a sense of luxury due to the grand scale of the ceiling in both the foyer and living and dining area. A large glass wall spanning 19 feet tall is implemented at the foyer of the space, and asserts a modern feel, while providing a preview of the rest of the interior space, in addition to the view of the lake.
The large master bedroom and bathroom are the most prominent features in the space. The master bedroom boasts three separate zones, to provide privacy and intimacy within the space, and also includes a large walk-in closet. The master bathroom makes use of windows in the space to allow for the positive psychological effects of natural lighting, thus making it feel more luxurious.
Overall, the Retreat is able to provide a lavish environment through use of scale and implementation of natural lighting to all spaces. The playfulness of the forms, textures, and architectural elements of the space help to promote and achieve its concept.
