New project! (I’m really bad at updating this…) It was a 2-week sketch project for a vintage/eclectic cafe. Concept drew elements from vintage photography like Polaroids and expired film. Floor plan and client profile were both given.

DC Universe Retail

New project! Honestly just presented an hour ago. The floor plan was given; we were to design a retail space for a brand or designer who does not yet have their own retail space. I chose to do DC Comics, especially due to their recent reboot this past September. Hope you enjoy and more should be coming soon. (Side note — Comic covers/graphics used are not my material — they were found on dc-planet.com)

Catching up

… It’s been a while. Almost 5-6 months have flown by since the last post (my apologies!) So, here is an extremely brief update, and also a promise to update more often!

Over the summer I interned at Palmetto Interiors of Charleston, a commercial firm that specializes in club rooms and models for townhouses and apartments. It was fun, a great experience, and seemed to fly by way too quickly (like the rest of my summer, unfortunately…)

I came back to Winthrop a month ago for my last year as an interior design student. We’ve started on Thesis, and I promise a separate update for that when things start taking off. We’ve also started on our third commercial project of the semester, which is a retail store that I’m becoming more and more excited about. But since we’re just in the conceptual/programming phase now, I promise more updates on that within the next week =) I just posted a new quick retail project that you should check out if you’re bored or somehow interested.

Other eventful things at the top of my head: summer road trips, and jet skiing, para sailing, and wake boarding for the first time. oh, and getting a Nikon d7000… it is my baby.

Going to do some retail research (my Thesis also has a retail component) and case studies now. So I’ll leave you with a few photos I took of the seniors from the Interior Design social a few weeks ago, and some retail research sketches.

Cardboard Robot: Quick Retail

Cardboard Robot was a sketch retail project. Essentially, the space sold unique gifts, party favors, greeting cards, and decor. I came up with a very funky concept for the space and ran with it. Check it out!

Nintendo Regional Office

Here it is… the final project of Junior year! The mission was to design a regional office of a company of our choice. No doubt I chose Nintendo. We were provided with the basic requirements and the floor plan shell. My primary concept was to translate Nintendo’s innovative, modern, and simplistic nature to the floor plan, along with an abstract representation of its Mario franchise.

PS: Everything was rendered by hand – (yet still digital) on Photoshop! I think I’m getting better/faster! ^^

Rendering Final

Here’s a short rendering project final for our computer application course. The main purpose of this project was to use Photoshop to manipulate a rendering. I used very basic Revit and Photoshop rendering techniques, and it took about an hour to complete. The original floor plan was the same one I used for my guest suite for the Aura Hotel.

It was a light and fun project :) Hope you enjoy!

Ups and Downs

The semester is coming to an end, which is always so bittersweet.

THE PROJECTS!

We just finished up a tenant upfit in Revit for our advanced computer class today. We’re starting to do a project in Photoshop; it’s exciting because it’s worth as much as all of the other projects, yet it’s something I’ve been doing since.. forever. So it should be fun and easy :) Photoshop is a third language to me…

Earlier in the week, we had a project due where we basically took the concept of systems furniture and innovated it further. You can see it all here! The next project in studio class is a regional office design. Space planning wooo hoo!! We get to select the company we’re designing for… and of course, I had to go with Nintendo. Look forward to that… I think.

AWARDS… or lack thereof :(

My friend and I were two of three finalists (or so I was told) for the 2010-2011 IIDA Student Award!! We both went in for interviews in Charlotte this past Saturday, but just found out we weren’t chosen. :( It was a complete bummer, but then.. I found out something else!

I was a top ten finalist for the Comporium Photography Contest held at school! The winner would receive an iPad, falalala. My sister was also a finalistt. We both attended the reception today, met some nice people, and ate awesome chicken strips and cookies (yumm). We didn’t win the grand prize unfortunately (bummer #2), but we received $50 gift cards to BEST BUY (aka tech geek’s heaven). So I guess that neutralizes everything else. (See my “winning” entry here!)

I registered for classes yesterday. Senior Thesis, another Commercial Design, Consumer Behavior Marketing, Management, and Geology… fun.

Summer break is starting soon, though. Internship(s), eating at ALLLLLL of Charleston’s restaurants, and camping are my goals for the summer. Anyone have other (possibly more interesting) summer goals? My next post will probably be sometime around then, so stay tuned….. :)

DEFT: System’s Furniture

I recently had a week-long project to come up with an improved system furniture inspired by graphic designers/illustrators. Decided to make a collaborative work system that supported both traditional and modern design practices. Options include: light box, drafting table, parallel bar, and pen tablet surface. Dual monitors’ heights are adjustable based on eye level heights in order to fit each user’s comfort.
